Entry requirements:

    General Regulations Governing Admission to Higher Degree Programmes

    • Candidates for admission to higher degree programmes shall normally be graduates of the University of Ibadan or other Universities/Institutions recognised by the Senate. Admission shall be made by the Postgraduate College on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee.
    • Candidates without any previous higher degrees in the relevant discipline may be admitted only to either the Degree of Master or the Professional Degree of Master.
    • Candidates with recognised “Research Higher” Degree in the relevant discipline may be admitted to the M.Phil or Ph.D. degree programmes as appropriate, on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee.
    • A candidate admitted to the degree of Master of University of Ibadan who obtained a weighted average mark of 55.0 – 59.9%, or a CGPA of between 4.0 and 4.9 may be offered provisional admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D programmes. Such candidates shall be assessed within three semesters of full time and four semesters of part time registration for the M.Phil/Ph.D to Ph.D conversion. This shall also apply to students who graduated from other universities 

    SPECIAL WAIVER FOR MATURED APPLICANTS

    • All University of Ibadan graduates should be admitted to Postgraduate programme with the ordinary level criteria existing at the time their first admission. Candidate who did not fulfill the requirements as at the time of their admission are not eligible for consideration.
    • Special consideration may be given to candidates, who obtained their first degree not less than 20 years from the time of seeking admission to any postgraduate programmes. Such candidates must have been found to possess special skills or abilities and professionally or academically engaged during the period of 20 years.

Our higher degree in Physiotherapy provides our students with advanced knowledge and skills in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiopulmonary conditions. Here is a general overview of the course content in Physiotherapy:

Anatomy and Physiology: 

  • This course covers the structure and function of the human body, including the musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiopulmonary systems. Students learn about the anatomical structures and physiological processes relevant to physical therapy practice.

Biomechanics and Kinesiology:

  • This course explores the principles of movement and the mechanics of human motion. Students study topics such as joint mechanics, muscle function, posture, gait analysis, and movement analysis during various activities.

Examination and Assessment: 

  • This course focuses on the skills and techniques used to assess patients' physical abilities, functional limitations, and impairments. Students learn various assessment methods, including range of motion testing, muscle strength evaluation, balance and coordination assessments, and functional outcome measures.

Therapeutic Interventions: 

  • This course covers a wide range of therapeutic techniques and interventions used in physiotherapy practice. Students learn manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, electrotherapy modalities, therapeutic ultrasound, heat and cold therapy, and assistive device prescription.

Rehabilitation and Physical Function: 

  • This course emphasizes the principles and strategies for designing and implementing rehabilitation programs. Students learn about exercise prescription, functional training, mobility aids, pain management techniques, and patient education for promoting optimal physical function.

Neurological Rehabilitation: 

  • This course focuses on the assessment and treatment of individuals with neurological conditions, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and multiple sclerosis. Students learn neurorehabilitation techniques, gait training, balance exercises, and techniques for improving motor control and coordination.

Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation: 

  • This course covers the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, including orthopedic injuries, joint disorders, and chronic pain conditions. Students learn manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, taping techniques, and strategies for promoting tissue healing and functional recovery.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation: 

  • This course focuses on the assessment and rehabilitation of individuals with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, such as heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary rehabilitation post-surgery. Students learn cardiopulmonary exercise testing, breathing exercises, airway clearance techniques, and techniques for promoting cardiovascular fitness.
