Entry requirements:

    General Regulations Governing Admission to Higher Degree Programmes

    • Candidates for admission to higher degree programmes shall normally be graduates of the University of Ibadan or other Universities/Institutions recognised by the Senate. Admission shall be made by the Postgraduate College on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee.
    • Candidates without any previous higher degrees in the relevant discipline may be admitted only to either the Degree of Master or the Professional Degree of Master.
    • Candidates with recognised “Research Higher” Degree in the relevant discipline may be admitted to the M.Phil or Ph.D. degree programmes as appropriate, on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee.
    • A candidate admitted to the degree of Master of University of Ibadan who obtained a weighted average mark of 55.0 – 59.9%, or a CGPA of between 4.0 and 4.9 may be offered provisional admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D programmes. Such candidates shall be assessed within three semesters of full time and four semesters of part time registration for the M.Phil/Ph.D to Ph.D conversion. This shall also apply to students who graduated from other universities    

    SPECIAL WAIVER FOR MATURED APPLICANTS

    • All University of Ibadan graduates should be admitted to Postgraduate programme with the ordinary level criteria existing at the time their first admission. Candidate who did not fulfill the requirements as at the time of their admission are not eligible for consideration.
    • Special consideration may be given to candidates, who obtained their first degree not less than 20 years from the time of seeking admission to any postgraduate programmes. Such candidates must have been found to possess special skills or abilities and professionally or academically engaged during the period of 20 years.

Our Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB/GYN) programme is a medical specialty focused on women's reproductive health, including pregnancy, childbirth, and the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the female reproductive system. Our college programs in Obstetrics and Gynecology are typically residency programs that provide advanced training and specialization in this field. 

Obstetrics: 

  • The obstetrics component of the programme focuses on pregnancy, prenatal care, labour, and delivery. Residents learn to provide comprehensive antenatal care, including prenatal screenings, ultrasound evaluations, and managing high-risk pregnancies. They acquire skills in managing labour and performing deliveries, including vaginal deliveries and caesarean sections. They also learn about postpartum care and management of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.

Gynecology: 

  • The gynecology component of the programme covers the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the female reproductive system. Residents learn about common gynecological conditions, such as menstrual disorders, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and pelvic inflammatory disease. They acquire skills in performing gynecological surgeries, such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, and laparoscopic procedures. They also learn about preventive care, family planning, and contraceptive methods.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility: 

  • This area of study focuses on the diagnosis and management of reproductive disorders and infertility. Residents learn about the evaluation and treatment of conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hormonal imbalances, and fertility issues. They acquire skills in performing assisted reproductive techniques, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Gynecologic Oncology: 

  • Residents receive training in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, uterine, cervical, and vulvar cancers. They learn about the various treatment modalities, including surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. They also gain experience in cancer screening and prevention strategies.

Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Disorders: 

  • This area of study focuses on the evaluation and management of pelvic floor disorders, such as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Residents learn about non-surgical and surgical approaches to treat these conditions, including pelvic floor exercises, medications, and corrective surgeries.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine: 

  • This field specializes in the management of high-risk pregnancies and fetal conditions. Residents learn about prenatal diagnostic procedures, fetal monitoring techniques, and the management of medical conditions in pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes and hypertension. They also gain experience in the care of pregnant women with complex medical conditions or fetal abnormalities.

Family Planning and Contraception: 

  • This component of the program focuses on counseling women about contraceptive options, providing family planning services, and performing contraceptive procedures, such as intrauterine device (IUD) insertion and contraceptive implant placement.

Research and Scholarly Activities: 

  • Residents are encouraged to engage in research and scholarly activities, such as conducting clinical studies, publishing research papers, and presenting at conferences. This allows them to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
